Rising Tide: The Global Surge of Childhood Type 2 Diabetes

A Growing Global Concern Childhood type 2 diabetes is rising dramatically across the world—and it’s touching more families than ever before. The increase, especially since the 1990s and during the COVID-19 pandemic , has made it one of the fastest-growing chronic conditions among children. A Global Surge in Numbers  In 1990, about 26 out of every 100,000 children and teens were diagnosed with diabetes. By 2021, that number had nearly doubled to 50, with type 2 diabetes now more common than type 1 in many regions. Today, studies reveal that up to 1 in 10 children may have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes —an alarming leap from just 1 in 100 a few decades ago. In the United States, new cases in children aged 10–19 years, have nearly doubled over sixteen years and similar trends are seen in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Experts warn that, if this continues, the number of children living with type 2 diabetes could increase by 700% by 2060. What’s Driving This Surge? The rise is fueled b...

Understanding the Real Causes of Type 1 Diabetes in Children

Type 1 diabetes in children is not caused by eating sweets or inactivity. It develops when the immune system mistakenly destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas — a process influenced by genetic factors and environmental triggers . Knowing these causes helps you as a parent feel empowered, not blamed. Main Causes of Type 1 Diabetes in Children 1. Genetic Factors Some children inherit genes that increase the risk of autoimmune diabetes . Having a close family member (parent or sibling) with Type 1 diabetes raises the risk, (though not every child with such genes will develop it). 2. Viral Infections Viruses such as enteroviruses can confuse the immune system and trigger an attack on the body’s own insulin-producing cells. 3. Early Diet Exposure Research once linked early exposure to cow’s milk or formula with diabetes, but large studies have found no consistent proof. Still Mother feeding for 2 yrs is the best way to build a strong immune system in the child . 4 . Gut...

Causes of Childhood Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes Explained

If you’d like to know why diabetes is becoming such a serious concern in India , start by reading our earlier post:  https://wecare4all.blogspot.com/2025/11/indias-growing-diabetes-challenge-wake.html What Is Childhood Diabetes? Childhood diabetes mainly comes in two forms — Type 1 and Type 2,  and they develop for very different reasons.  Understanding these differences helps parents provide better care and support for their children. Type 1 Diabetes – When the Body’s Immune System Makes a Mistake In Type 1 diabetes , the body’s defense system (immune system) mistakenly attacks the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin — the hormone that controls blood sugar. Without insulin, the body cannot use sugar for energy, and blood sugar levels rise. This type is usually caused by a mix of genetic factors and sometimes environmental triggers such as viral infections. Important Note: Type 1 diabetes is not caused by diet, lifestyle, or eating sweets . It’s an aut...

Stroke Awareness: Recognize, Act, and Recover with the Right Care

A stroke is a medical emergency that happens when blood flow to a part of the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel bursts, cutting off oxygen to brain cells. Without quick treatment, brain cells start to die within minutes — leading to serious damage, disability, or even death. Recognizing stroke symptoms early and acting immediately can save lives and prevent long-term complications. Understanding Stroke Symptoms The most common way to remember stroke symptoms is through the F.A.S.T. method, used worldwide to spot early warning signs: F – Face : Is one side of the face drooping or feeling numb? Ask the person to smile and check if it looks uneven. A – Arms : Is one arm weak or numb? Ask themto raise both arms. Does one drift down? S – Speech : Is their speech slurred or strange? Can they repeat a simple sentence clearly? T – Time: If you notice any of these signs, call for emergency medical help immediately. Time is critical. B.E. The Hospital–Insurance Tug of War: How Patients End Up Paying the Price

When it comes to healthcare, many patients instinctively turn to large, branded hospitals—especially when their medical expenses are covered by insurance.  The perception is simple:  Big hospitals mean Better care. For some, getting treated in such institutions even feels like a symbol of social prestige. But here’s a question worth asking—Have you ever compared how much the same treatment might cost at a smaller, ethical, non-corporate hospital?  You might be surprised to learn that the difference can be significant, without any compromise on quality. What is the Price of Perception Over the years, a concerning trend has emerged in the healthcare industry: Hospitals tend to overcharge insured patients. The reasoning is straightforward—they believe the insurance company will foot the bill. Unfortunately, this often means that a patient’s entire insurance coverage is drained in just one hospitalization. Once the insured amount is exhausted, the patient and their family are...

Kerala: God’s Own Country — But Battling Its Own Weight

A Paradise with a Hidden Problem Kerala — lovingly called God’s Own Country — is a land of shimmering backwaters, lush greenery, coconut-fringed beaches, and soulful traditions. From Sabarimala to Guruvayur , from coconut-rich curries to grand sadhya feasts, Kerala enchants every visitor with its charm. But beneath this natural and cultural richness lies a silent threat: Obesity . The Weight of Modern Life ⚖️ Recent studies show that Kerala has the highest rate of abdominal obesity among women in India — affecting over 65% of adult women and nearly 10% of men. The reasons are deeply rooted in lifestyle shifts: ➡️ Easy access to fried, processed, and high-fat foods. ➡️ Sugary teas and calorie-dense snacks now part of daily life. ➡️ Urbanization replacing home-cooked, traditional, fiber-rich meals. ➡️ Long work hours and increasing screen time reducing physical activity. What was once a state known for its active culture — boat races , football, and martial arts — is slowly turning...

Choosing the Right Place for Treatment: Corporate Hospitals vs. Doctor-Driven Care

Families often wonder where to go for the best care and comfort when someone falls ill. It’s a common worry, and making this choice can feel stressful. Corporate hospitals are the big, well-known medical centres. They have advanced technology, lots of specialists, and are often quick and organized. For some people, that sounds ideal.  But it’s also true that these hospitals can feel busy and formal. Sometimes, patients feel like just another number and may not get much personal attention. Doctor-driven hospitals and private clinics work differently. They might not have big buildings, but they offer something special—a familiar face, time to listen, and truly personal care.  Here, the doctor gets to know each patient’s story and offers comfort and continuity. Many patients find this personal touch helps them heal not just physically, but emotionally too . There’s no perfect answer for everyone. Some families want advanced technology; others want a caring doctor who remembers th...

Sacral Nerve Stimulation: An advanced Option to Regain Bladder Control

When medications, exercises, and lifestyle changes aren’t enough to control bladder problems, there is still hope. One of the most advanced options available today is Sacral Nerve Stimulation (SNS) — also called sacral neuromodulation. This treatment helps patients restore bladder (and sometimes bowel) control, offering freedom from the daily struggles of leakage or urgency. How Does Sacral Nerve Stimulation Work? Your bladder and bowels are controlled by special nerves in the lower back, called the sacral nerves, located near the tailbone. If these nerves don’t send the right signals, it can lead to problems like leakage, urgency, or trouble emptying the bladder. SNS uses a small device, like a pacemaker, which sends gentle electrical pulses to these nerves. This restores normal communication between the brain and bladder, improving control and reducing symptoms. SNS can help with: 👉 Urge incontinence (leaking with a strong urge) 👉 Frequent urination 👉 Urinary retention (trouble e...

MARKETING - A View. Contd.5....

WHAT IS A CALL ACTUALLY? A call on a doctor has two main things : CALL OPENING & CALL CLOSING. Many of the marketers do not concentrate on this. The time given towards a marketer solely depends on these two facts. General thought of many marketing people about a CALL is just Greeting a doctor and explaining the product / service with the tools they have. In my understanding such calls were proven ineffective👎 as it is one among many promotions the doctor is gonna see.  Those who have concentrated on the above given two facts has always made a place for themselves in the marketing industry 👍. Let us see what we can do about it..  CALL OPENING is always with greeting the doctor of course, as that's the basic thing to be done by anyone when we meet someone new, irrespective of their positions. But, after extending a warm greetings to the doctor marketers misses certain things, which has to be taken into prime consideration😕😕 due to which a prospect turn...

MARKETING - A VIEW Contd.4...

JUST 2 MINUTES...😕😕😕 When i was an amateur marketer, when i heard such replies from doctors, i was literally confused and didn't know many times what to brief the doctor in 2 minutes??.  It happened like at some places i have left without talking anything😓😓 as the doctor would had already called the patient in. During the thought process to break this ice, one fine day i utilized the given 2 minutes. I just thanked the doctor for the time given and asked an appointment with the doctor to discuss in detail. Waited, fixed my appointment with him and left the clinic handing over my business card.  The day went and on the next day morning during my reporting to my godfather, i was asked if the appointment fixing to be considered as a call and my answer was YES which he accepted after a small briefing about the call made.  During the following days did the same with many doctors and the day also came to me for meeting the doctor who was my first prospect with an app...

MARKETING - A VIEW Contd.3...

IN JUST TWO MINUTES...??????😟😟😟 When i was promoted to a position where i had to handle a team of marketers, i use to go on calling the doctors along with my teammates. [Calling is the terminology used for meeting the doctors and doing promotions.] So, when we get to call on a new doctor whom we haven't met earlier i will remain a spectator watching my team member making the call. Every time, every one, does this mistake of rushing up with their product / services to the doctor and where they miss out the most important two factors which to be carried with them forever their life. BODY LANGUAGE & ATTITUDE.   Well...  What these has got to do with marketing??😏😏😏 If this question comes to your mind, then it is the right time for you to understand that these two are the most important qualities a human should have at all times which shows Your Skill & Confidence level. To be precise YOUR STRENGTH.  💪💪💪 When a person misses the right opportunity the...

Marketing A View cont..1

My experience was totally into MARKETING which started with   Promosales Banking product for a short period of time, a year and so... Then had a chance to get introduced with Concept Selling which is Promotion through an Insurance Company. The policies were so good that i personally would not refuse taking up one but it was pretty difficult to sell a single policy to a customer for a period of time. I was wondering why is it so difficult and why a person says " NO" to such benefits which were really good. Every individuals answers was "I have a policy and don't want anymore" .  Well it was direct selling which I was doing apart from the branding and advertisements done by my organization. I fix up appointments with people, go to their place, understand their economical situation and suggest a plan which was again a " NO" from many and " MAY BE LATER" from few. Had discussions with my boss, took them for appointments to close the lea...
